About this piece:
Very important and rare Bureau-plat marked on drawer lock "P. Sormani, Paris / 10 rue Charlot" and owned by the U.S. Ambassador to Spain. This wonderfully adorned piece has casting "fit for a king". Paul Sormani made the highest quality reproductions of his time, copying items from chateau such as Versailles during the mid-1800's, and his pieces were highly sought after by elite families such as the Vanderbilts of Newport, RI, where we are told a similar piece resides. There are a set of false drawer fronts on one side to go with the 3 true drawers giving the piece a "partner's desk" effect but this piece is meant for one king only. This is a true treasure to be admired for generations. ($30,000 to 50,000 est.)
